Richard P. Guthrie, Town Council candidate

Richard Guthrie is a 40 year New Baltimore resident who has been elected in the past as a member of the Town Council, working collaboratively with a bi-partisan board to serve all New Baltimore residents.  A United States Navy Veteran, Rich has worked for the NYS Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services for 25 years, following his previous service with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, where he worked in the Environmental Analysis and Clean Water Program after being assigned from Fish and Game and Law Enforcement. 

During his military service, Rich was part of the Naval Security Group charged with specific intelligence missions overseas. He was a member of the United States Coast Guard Reserves in Albany and Governor’s Island; is a graduate of the FBI Citizens Academy; is a past Commander of the New Baltimore American Legion Post; and, was a 20-year member, and past president of the Albany Maritime Ministry, aiding sailors arriving at the Ports of Albany and Coeymans.  

Apart from being a respected ornithologist, he is also a board member of the Greene Land Trust, working with the Greene County IDA to bring jobs and economic development to the area while preserving the natural environment in New Baltimore and elsewhere. 

Rich is well known as the voice on “Vox-Pop” (Voice of the People), a popular radio call-in program that he’s been doing for more than 20 years on NPR’s Northeast Public Radio affiliate -WAMC- out of Albany, NY. He has also been a guest lecturer at many of our colleges and universities, along with many civic organizations and societies.
